Hello Everyone, I'm sorry to inform you that due to unforeseen scheduling conflicts neither Kathyrn nor I will be able to organize a SCVS event this month. Thank you for being patient since SCVS has started 2006 with a hiccup, but you can be certain our regular meetings will be back on track starting in February. I've confirmed with author and historian Rynn Berry that he will be at our February 12th meeting to talk about the history of raw foodism. I will be sending the official announcement mailing near the end of this month. We'll be in North Haven as usual, starting at 5:00pm with a potluck meal. While members are encouraged to explore raw dishes for this event, you're also welcome to be creative with dishes for a certain day coming later that week (hint: it's sarcastically referred to as "Singles Awareness Day"). But wait, there's more! January is not a month free of vegetarian events! Oh no it's not. January marks the first vegetarian restaurant "hop" being put together by the organizers of the three vegetarian societies. This idea germinated around the time of the December social gathering at China Pan Restaurant. We hope to gather once a month on about the third Thursday for dinner at different restaurants around the state. At first we are going to focus on vegetarian restaurants and later we hope to work with veg-friendly establishments on special menus if we can get a large enough group dining regularly. The January restaurant hop will be at Alchemy Juice Bar Cafe in Hartford on the Thursday the 19th starting at 6:00pm. Alchemy is open until 8:30pm so drop by whenever you can after work or school. These hops will be starting off quite informal and everyone will order and pay separately from the menu. Alchemy is at 203 New Britain Ave and their number is (860) 246-5700. Check out their website for directions and the menu. Mmm! That's not all! I've also received word of an event happening at the New Haven Ecology Project / Common Ground High School. Here are the details Rebecca Holocombe sent to me:

Film Showing & Vegetarian Dinner
Join us for a showing of the film FOOD FOR THOUGHT, a critical look at the environmental consequences of a meat-centered diet.
Comparing a cow to a gas-guzzling automobile, science writer Roger Bingham explains the inefficiency of using meat as fuel for the human body, especially in light of the environmental impact of raising all that meat--from loss of topsoil, and groundwater depletion and pollution, to methane's contribution to global warming, and the growing gap between the rich and poor nations.
Film showing followed by a vegetarian meal including Common Ground grown organic ingredients.
Space Limited, Pre-registration Appreciated! $5/person
