The November meeting of the Southern Connecticut Vegetarian Society
was a great success! Thank you so much to everyone who came out to
attend our "Compassionate Thanksgiving" potluck and hear Jenn Mezzio
talk to us about Yoga. Right up front I'd like to sincerely thank our
members in attendance who donated a few dollars a piece to help cover
the cost of our new venue. You're all the best! Among the
delightful dishes we all shared were a veggie pizza with
flax/walnut/nutritional yeast topping, a seitan casserole, garlic
mashed potatoes, pies, soup (or as I learned to call it, "potage"), hot
mulled apple cider and four cartons of soy nog. Thanks to everyone who
brought something to share. SCVS member Jenn Mezzio did
an excellent job introducing everyone to Yoga. She started by guiding
us through a short meditation and explaining what is universal in yoga
and what is different in the many types. She explained how she works
with her students and answered some good questions from other members.
Jenn also related the ideas behind yoga to vegetarianism. Please visit Jenn's website at http://www.YogaByJenn.com Next
month, on Sunday December 18th at 1:00pm, we're planning something
special! SCVS is getting together with the Northern Connecticut
Vegetarian Society (cleverly abbreviated NCVS), and the newly formed
North-Eastern Connecticut Vegetarian Society for a fun winter social
event at China Pan in Farmington. This restaurant offers a surprisingly
wide selection of vegan and vegetarian mock meat and
vegetable-based dishes. While Farmington is a bit north of where SCVS
usually roams I think you'll enjoy the event. We're going to have a
number of large tables reserved and will be served an all vegan meal.
The price per person looks to be $20 and I'm including a tentative menu
below: Appetizers:
- Tossed Cucumber
- Vegan Drum Sticks
- Scallion Pancakes
- Boneless BBQ Vegan Ribs
- Steamed Vegetable Dumplings
- Spicy Cabbage
- Vegan Ham
- Pan Fried Vegetarian Wonton
Entrees:
- Vegan Lobster with Ginger & Scallion Sauce
- General Tsao's Vegan Chicken
- Sesame Vegan Beef
- Vegan Mutton with Scallion Sauce
- Crispy Tofu with Salt & Pepper
- Vegan Citrus Spareribs
- Chinese Green with Winter Mushroom
- Silver Vegan Chicken Balls
- (Steamed Brown Rice Served with Meal)
Fruit Platter It
is very important that we have an accurate count of who will be
attending. I hope many of you are interested in coming to this
wonderful event. If you are, please reply to this message as soon as possible indicating your desire to attend.
This will allow us to get a basic idea of how many people will be
coming from each group. Once that is established I will email again
asking for a commitment to attend. SCVS has no funds to cover people
who RSVP but do not show, so please help us make this event a
success. I hope everyone is keeping warm and having
fun planning for the holidays. As always, take care and let us know if
there is anything we can help you with. Joshua
