Adoption profiles

Here you will find wonderful rabbits, saved by the shelter, and now waiting for adoption at local foster homes. We hope that some of these buns will find a home faster than I can type this info. In that case, you may find a different bunny waiting than described here.

Unfortunately, our foster sites are always full. The shelter can become overwhelmed at any time, and by adopting, you'll be saving a life. If you have ever considered adopting another rabbit, the time is now. No bun should live alone.

The House Rabbit Connection (P.O. Box 83  Springfield, MA 01101-0083) is a nonprofit [501 (c)(3)] organization. All donations are tax deductible.

And of course if you can foster, by all means let us know. Call the HopLine at (413)525-9222 (email links are at bottom of page).

Often, some of the rabbits shown here HAVE been adopted. If so, we have plenty more who need a home, so give us a call.
If you don't find the rabbit(s) you are looking for here, please also check our linked shelter pages.

Featured Foster Rabbit(s):

Bonnie & Clyde

Bonnie & Clyde are 1 year old (as of Jan. 2009) lionhead mixes. They are agouti in color and have tiny little manes. They love each other and spend lots of time cuddling and hanging out. They are both very affectionate, love attention and enjoy being petted. They are easy to handle, although Clyde does put up a fuss. His foster parents put them on their laps while watching TV. Clyde is a little more nervous than Bonnie but he has become very social. Bonnie & Clyde would love to meet you!!

AbbyAbby Abby is a 2 year old Agouti female. She was transferred from one shelter to another and is now in HRC care where she will finally be able to find a forever home. She is very playful - she plays with ALL of her toys!! She loves her big cardboard box, she can jump on top, rest inside or bounce it around her pen till it flips over (that's her favorite). Abby is very energetic and would do best as a single bunny. She is such a friendly girl and enjoys the company of humans! However, she would be better suited for a home with no small children..she is protective of her pen and can nip. We feel if someone could spend more time with her, she could probably be cured of that behavior. Abby is a beautiful rabbit with gorgeous eyes. Do you have some time and TLC for her?!

Daria    -  Daria is an 8.5 pound White New Zealand rabbit who was seized, along with over 30 other rabbits, by the Buffalo, NY, SPCA in a cruelty and neglect case in August. Daria came into HRC care via the Bunderground Railroad the middle of September. She is 2 years old now. She has become a very happy & playful girl. She likes people but is still shy of human hands. She’d do well in a home where she can have lots of exercise to build up her muscle mass after being confined to a small cage her entire life. She is good with her litter box and a very sweet bun. If you can provide nurture and space, Daria would love to meet you! She may also be a nice companion for your single rabbit.
please note: Daria does not, unfortunately, have flashlight eyes...just a 'normal' bun with pink eyes that do not always photograph well ...

Thistle & Iris

Meet Thistle and Iris, two rabbits who came into HRC via the Springfield MSPCA after living in a hoarding situation. This nice bonded pair is warming up quickly to their foster mom. Thistle is a 4.5 pound male Jersey Woolley, and Iris is an 8.5 pound up-eared mix with a coat as sleek as Thistle’s is fluffy. Both buns have been socialized with small dogs. We do not recommend this pair for a home with small children, at least right now, as Iris still carries some baggage from her previous life and will bite if she feels threatened. These two would do well in an adult home with a caregiver who has time to keep Thistle’s coat in good shape with daily grooming and willing to lavish extra attention on Iris to win her trust.
Deputy

Deputy is a dwarf mix rabbit, white with brown spots. He's about a year and a half old. Deputy has been socialized with dogs, cats & kids. He is very friendly and would make a great family companion. He is full of energy! He will need lots of time out to run, run, run & play, play, play. Come and meet this little guy, he will steal your heart!!

OliverI'm Oliver! A really really cute little black bunny boy! (Oliver is probably around 8 - 10 months old) I was wandering around outside when someone found me and brought me to the Enfield, CT dog pound. It was really strange there for me. But soon some people came and took me home with them. They told me they would find me a nice home of my own that I can live at forever!! I can't wait!! I'm a good boy - I like when people pet me and rub my little cheek! I will even let you pick me up - although it's a little scary. Won't you come and meet me......maybe you will fall in love with me!!

Scooter & Trixie Scooter & Trixie are a 2 year old pair of Fun Buns! Scooter is a male black Dutch mix weighing 6 lbs. He is a handsome guy and loves to chew his cardboard and play with all the toss toys. Trixie is a female English Spot weighing 10 lbs. She is a stunning girl, so much more beautiful than her photo. She is not overweight but just a big bun! She loves to run around and jump for joy into the air! Although I think Scooter holds the record for the high jump. As much as they have jumped around during their out time, they have stayed in their 30 inch pen. They are well behaved with good litter box habits. This pair came from the Boston MSPCA where they have been waiting for their forever home but it never came. Its hard to find a home for a larger pair of rabbits....But these 2 are worth their weight in gold!! They are friendly and love to come over and check out their new foster parents. Trixie is still getting used to being petted but she is definitely starting to enjoy it.
Come and meet Scooter & Trixie!!

AlfredoHi, I'm Alfredo! I'm a saucy little bun who was found roaming the streets of Springfield in September. After a 3 month stay at the MSPCA, I have come into HRC's care. I'm a dwarf English spot mix who weighs about 4 pounds. I don't mean to brag, but I do have the cutest black markings around my nose. Have I mentioned how friendly I am? I don't mind being picked up, and I love to be petted. When I'm really enjoying my head pats, I'll start clicking my teeth, which is just like a cat purring. I'm a mellow rabbit who may be comfortable around children. I don't have much of a sweet tooth, but I love my veggies!

Bosley  Bosley
Bosley - more affectionately known as Mr. B. - is a large mahogany brown Flemish mix, male, aprox. 6 months old (12/08). He is a large rabbit and still growing. Mr.B spent over 3 months in a shelter environment...from aprox. age 3 to 6 months. Because there are so many abandoned rabbits filling the shelters these days, he has been growing up in a small "cubicle" with limited time out to exercise. Now in HRC foster care, he has made an amazing transformation from a very shy unhappy boy to a very happy young bun who is starting to come out of his shell!! He will eagerly come up to you to take treats out of your hand. He will cautiously come up to you to sniff and check you out - maybe even give you a little bunny kiss on your nose. He is still leery of human hands.....he is just not used to being petted. But since he has made so much progress in such a short amount of time, we feel with a little time & TLC he will learn to really enjoy being petted. Mr. B is such a sweetheart and he has a cute little white mark below his left ear - such a handsome boy! He is a big rabbit and needs lots of space. After all the time he has spent in a little metal cube, he deserves a great forever home with lots of room to explore and run.

HRC member Joanne enjoys
socializing the rabbits at the MSPCA (the rabbits enjoy her company too! shown here with Petal). HRC is always looking for more volunteers to do the same!

Animal shelters have limited space for rescuing rabbits. Many rabbits face the possibility of euthanasia. Please consider fostering or adopting a house rabbit as a companion. Adopting a rescued rabbit from the HRC makes room for another shelter rabbit to be placed in HRC foster care. Call the Hopline at (413) 525-9222
(Email links at bottom of page).

We often have many more bunnies than listed so please call!

Former HRC foster bunnies (now a happily bonded pair), Sadie & Elliott play with their Busy Bunny Ball treat/pellet dispensing toy.  They act like a "tag-team" when it comes to how they get their pellets.  With every nudge and roll of the ball, pellets fall out from one of the two openings, making them work & play for their food.  A wonderful must-have for everybun!

Please visit us at one of our next event locations to purchase your Busy Bunny Ball, or click on the link below. If you buy through Busy Pet Toys, remember to state that HRC referred you and use customer/brochure # 69 .  With every referral, HRC earns a donation from Busy Pet Toys
